another prisoner, Yang Hsiang Pu, which seems to

corroborate the evidence of Shih Ching Ju against

Yang Chu Yun.

I have the honour to request that I may be informed

whether this is a case in which the procedure under

the Ordinance of 17th November 1897 applies.

I have &c

H.M.Consul General.

(Enclosure 2)

Copy of the report of evidence given by Shih Ching

Ju, a rebel, whose case was sent forward from the

Nam Hoi Magistrates Yamen.

Shih Ching Ju said:-

I am 22 years of age, a native of Pan Yu district, my father Yu Chien is dead, my mother's family name was Fong, I have a brother and am the junior of the two, and we live together at Kao She (the High Temple)

in the Hsiao Pei Chih street. In the 8th moon of last year I removed to Macao and resided there No 73

in the Ho Lan Yuan street. I am a student and have

inherited 5 houses, used as shops near the Red Temple in the South Suburb, as well as 1 ching 51 mow of

land at Pai Sha.

On 18th October I went to live with Sung Shao Tung

in the Hon Lon Fang, and on the 25 October Sung Shao Tung smuggled some dynamite into Canton by the S.S.

Kiang Tung - in all 50 packets. Of these Sung Shao Tung

concealed 10 in the house at the Hon Lon Fang, burying it at a depth of 5 feet. On the evening of the 27th

October he made a train of white tape chemically

treated and tied it to the end of a joss stick,

waiting for the stick to burn down to the tape and so conduct the fire (to the dynamite).
